Project 2 - Vibrating Edges

Assigned to create two patterns displaying colors with vibrating edges. The relationship between the two colors is what makes them vibrate. Both colors are equal in value and equal in intensity, but they are opposite in hue. This combination will result in a vibrating relationship along the edges where the colors meet. I created my patterns using Adobe Illustrator. I used a simple box filled with my first specific color, followed by another box filled with my second color. In regards to the shape, I tested the star tool, adding and deleting anchor points for an interesting shape. My third pattern is a combination of my first and second, but I adjusted the opacity, and overlapped certain sections of my first pattern onto the background of my first. you can see spherical shapes with lower opacity, making this a pattern of a pattern.

  1. Keyana,
You have two very interesting patterns here. They are both well done and interesting to look at. I think the fact that you decided to keep some of the white of the page is interesting, and it makes the pattern more dynamic.
The colors look right to me, I think I can see some vibrating edges. Although, it looks like your images are photographs taken of a printout of your design, so I’m guessing they are probably more vibrant in person, and even more so on the computer.
I can’t say anything about the composition now, because you only have your patterns at the moment. My suggestion for when you work on this is perhaps use more geometric shapes for the composition, because you are using organic shapes in the patterns. I think that could be an interesting contrast. Also, when putting the patterns together, I’d suggest playing around with the size of the patterns. Sometimes, depending on the design of your composition, the pattern might look better smaller or bigger.
I’m looking forward to seeing the finished product and how you decide to combine these two patterns!

  2. I really love both patterns but the first one definitely pops in terms of vibrating edges.
Incorporating an image using these patterns (or one of them) could definitely make that pattern pop as well. Like Shiloh had said, the pattern is dynamic and following the right path in terms of vibration but the composition definitely needs work. All and all, can't wait to see what you have done!
